Using an old cart to foil the voles is a great idea - I would definitely give it another go. Thankfully no voles in our yard - just pesky rabbits. Of course, now that I say that, one will probably make it's presence known.Margarethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15949946977793864054noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2884216770926932676.post-71250107610764924092014-08-08T10:18:34.576-04:002014-08-08T10:18:34.576-04:00I have not grown carrots successfully for years. ...I have not grown carrots successfully for years. The last attempt got eaten by some very happy voles. I have talked about growing carrots in a busted garden cart full of dirt. Did you take it out of the pan after the 10 minutes & let it cool completely on a wire rack? I drained the zucchini for about 15 minutes or so, but then I also squeezed it to get more moisture out of it. Maybe that made the difference? Just as an FYI, the bread does not rise a huge amount, especially around the edges (the center rises more). The hot peppers are doing really well - I'm not sure if I'm growing a quick maturing variety, but I did start them super early (in February), so that probably helped with how quickly I started getting peppers from them.Margarethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15949946977793864054noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2884216770926932676.post-79626866992004409142014-08-05T08:07:58.500-04:002014-08-05T08:07:58.500-04:00I grew the Scarlet Nantes and the Chantenay Red Co...I grew the Scarlet Nantes and the Chantenay Red Core carrots this year too. I will probably grow the Scarlet Nantes again in the spring, but if I try the Chantenay a second time, I will grow them in the fall since they were too bitter as spring carrots.
