I figure I will put them in the cold cellar over the winter as one of my neighbors tried putting them in her garage & they ended up dying - probably from the super frigid temps we had this past winter. I'll be repotting them into larger containers in a few days, but have to make sure they are not so large that we will have an issue taking them downstairs.Margarethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15949946977793864054noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2884216770926932676.post-81792442908699017062015-07-14T16:27:25.727-04:002015-07-14T16:27:25.727-04:00It is hard to pass up. Why do growers do that? You would think that placing a sticker on the care label that indicated the actual variety name wouldn't be a big deal.

I know that some fig trees are supposed to be hardy to zone 5, so I have a feeling you may have good results planting yours outside.Margarethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15949946977793864054noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2884216770926932676.post-34342928439465542922015-07-14T16:15:42.779-04:002015-07-14T16:15:42.779-04:00Good luck with the figs. I doubt they will survive a winter in your area, so you will have to plant them in a tub you can bring indoors.I kept mine in an unheated garage and it survived, but would start to leaf out in early spring, long before it was safe to take it outside. When it did go outside, the foliage was spindly and fragile. I got no spring set of fruit, and the fall fruit never ripened before first cold night killed the foliage. That got tiresome real fast. Maybe you can just use it as a foliage plant inside.David Veltenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07710293718143454000noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2884216770926932676.post-25571424797133078182015-07-14T15:42:23.512-04:002015-07-14T15:42:23.512-04:00Ooh! I have a Celeste fig tree that I kept in a pot for a few years (and brought it in for the winter) and we got several figs from it those years. This spring, I decided to plant it and deal with trying to protect it from the cold of winter... so I hope that was a good decision!Jenniferhttp://www.fernsadventures.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2884216770926932676.post-59987070480610991302015-07-14T14:38:48.161-04:002015-07-14T14:38:48.161-04:00I've never had much luck with potted plants, b...I've never had much luck with potted plants, but since I love figs so much, I'm hoping that gives me the added incentive to take care of it properly.
