We Wish You A Merry Christmas...

I'm listening to "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" on the radio right now.

Well, this year it is definitely NOT looking like Christmas.  There was a thunderstorm last night and it's 9C (48F) right now - I was just outside without a jacket.  What's funny is that we had almost exactly the same type of weather last year at this time - I didn't even remember it until I looked back at my Harvest Monday post from last December 29th.

And just like last year, I was able to harvest the same trio of herbs for our Christmas dinner:

What is becoming the traditional Christmas harvest:
Thyme, purple sage & parsley

I'm in the process of going through my notes and harvests from the past year and will be putting together some end of year reviews soon - hopefully I'll be posting the first one before the New Year hits.  But now, I'm off to finish the rest of the Christmas Eve preparations....

Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season, festive New Year and a bountiful garden in 2016!

    1. Yeaaaah...this year was so incredibly busy that both my garden and notes suffered - hopefully I got down most of the important stuff anyhow. And I think that dem der English be just dandy ;)

  5. Hope you had a wonderful, balmy Christmas, Margaret. It was about 70F here, pretty unusual. I read Albany was 72F, warmer than Phoenix, and previous high was 57, showing how extreme this is. And I think we did have a mild start to last winter, until that first storm the end of January dumped 5 feet in a day. Makes one nervous when the current winter storm heading our way is named Goliath!

    1. 70..wow! Here it "only" got to 52. Last winter ended up being so darn cold that I completely forgot that it also had a warm start. I'm pretty sure that January is supposed to be quite cold as is February, but they are saying that it won't get down to last years levels (thank God!). Eek - that storm sounds ominous...it will be the perfect opportunity to tuck into your house in front of a crackling fire with a hot drink in your hand :)

    1. Thank you Sue. Yes that's what I heard...it's not supposed to get as bad as last year but as we all know, weather prediction is not an exact science!

  8. Merry Christmas, Margaret! A "mixed precipitation" storm is headed my way tomorrow, with snow to follow. I wonder if it's in your forecast, too? If so, stay safe!

    1. Thank you Beth! And yup...it is hitting us right now. We actually got caught in it on our way back from spending the day in Toronto - white knuckle driving & SO glad to be home, safe and sound.

  9. After reading your post, I checked my own for this time last year and saw the weather was good and I was harvesting herbs. Great to have these records of our harvests for comparison year to year.

Very happy holidays to you and the family, Margaret!

    1. Thank you Susie - I couldn't remember when we had a Christmas that was as mild as this one so imagine my surprise when I looked back and saw that we had one last year! Just another confirmation that I have a pretty bad memory - and, like you said, thank goodness for our notes!

  11. Hope you had a good Christmas, Margaret. If I know you, I expect you spent a bit of time making plans for your 2016 garden! Your "Christmas herbs" seem just right for cold-weather food - assuming that we do actually get a Winter this year... I love Thyme in stews and casseroles. It's probably my favourite herb - very versatile.

    1. Thank you Mark, it was wonderful & you are right, I did spend what time I could squeeze in planning for next year! I completely agree with you on the thyme - it's one of the herbs I use most often, especially during the winter months. And winter has finally arrived around here with an ice/snow storm yesterday, so tobogganing was the first order of business for the kids today :)
