The Tale of Why
I love reading about what is happening in other people’s gardens. But even more so, I love when bloggers show us the nitty-gritty of their everyday gardening lives – sowing their seeds, transplanting their seedlings, amending their soil, experiments they are doing (different varieties, methods), etc. I like to see what others are doing and compare that with what I am doing – Do they have a different technique? How do they time their sowings? How far along are their transplants? When do they transplant outdoors? How much did they harvest?
And it’s also comforting to know that you are not alone when problems do occur. I’m not the only one whose seeds fail to germinate, who gets powdery mildew on her zucchini plant or goes to the veggie patch at night with a flashlight trying to catch the slugs that are devouring the collards.
And that is why I decided to start this blog. Instead of just reading what others are writing,
I thought it would be fun to share my experiences with other edible garden
enthusiasts. And, of course, I would
love to hear about fellow gardeners’ experiences as well!
I follow several gardening blogs and one of my favourites is
Granny's Family Garden (aka Annie's Kitchen Garden). What an
inspiration this lovely lady is! I was so incredibly sad when I read about her
fight with cancer – and that is why this year I am “Gardening for Granny” (see
link on right hand side). Quite frankly, I think that it is through reading her blog
that I have gained the courage to start one myself. Thank you Granny.
One final note – I am a complete novice, both when it comes
to the vegetable garden and blogging (HTML what??). This is truly an adventure for me, in more
ways than one.
Till next time…
Update: On May 7, 2014, Granny lost her fight with cancer. I will continue to garden in memory of this outstanding, inspirational lady. May you rest in peace, Granny, and continue to do what you love in the ultimate garden in the sky. We will miss you.
